With around 2 lakh IT employees losing jobs within just three months in a massive layoff spree by top companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon, Indian employees are scrambling for job options in the US within the time frame allowed by their work visas.

Thousands of Indian IT professionals in the US, who have lost their jobs due to the series of recent layoffs at companies like Google, Microsoft and Amazon, are now struggling to find new employment. In order to remain in the country, they are now battling to find new employment within the time frame allowed by their work visas.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced earlier this month that the tech giant would fire 10,000 employees, or approximately 5% of its entire workforce, calling it a difficult decision the tech giant had to make to remain a “consequential company” in the face of economic uncertainty throughout the world.

As the job-killing spree in the IT sector continues in 2023, Microsoft is the third company following Facebook and Amazon to announce job cuts.

The current era is one of “significant change,” according to Indian-origin Customers who increased their digital spending during the Covid-19 outbreak, according to Nadella, are now optimising it to accomplish more with fewer resources.

Since November 2022, approximately 200,000 IT employees have lost their jobs, including record numbers at firms like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon.

Some industry insiders estimate that between 30 and 40% of them are Indian IT professionals, many of whom are in possession of H-1B and L1 visas.

A non-immigrant visa called the H-1B allows US businesses to hire foreign nationals for specialised jobs that need for theoretical or technical competence. It is essential to the hiring of tens of thousands of workers each year from nations like China and India by technology companies.

Temporary intracompany transferees in managerial or specialised jobs are eligible for L-1A and L-1B visas.

Many Indian IT professionals who are on non-immigrant work visas like the H-1B or L1 are currently looking for ways to stay in the US after losing their jobs and changing their visa status in order to find a new job within the allotted time of a few months under these foreign work visas.

HOW TO KILL A LION (CORPORATE STYLE)

1. PFIZER METHOD:
Hire a lion, give him full rest, pay him more than his expectations, never ask for anything in the first two months. After two months tell him that you have to achieve your yearly target in 9 months. Lion dies of fear, that if he does not achieve this he will lose the jungle.

2. AMAZON METHOD:
Hire a lion, give him a hell of a lot of work, pay him a fat salary, more than the industry. Restructure his job every six months, as per your fancies.
If he kills two goats a day, next day give him a target of killing 20 elephants a day while knowing that there are only 10 elephants available. Lion dies of exhaustion & overkill.

3. ZOMATO METHOD:
Hire a lion & give him a post of a cat, than force the lion to meow like a cat. Give him lots of ESOPs & grass to eat. Lion will eventually die of hope & starvation.

4. TCS METHOD:
Hire a lion & set a cut off time, give the lion a spoon instead of a knife & ask him to extract 60kg meat out of a 40kg goat or else the lion will be forced to become a dog. Lion dies out of frustration & strain.

5. JP MORGAN METHOD:
Hire a lion & give him a 3000 page circular on how to kill a goat. Amend the circular at least three times a week. Send the lion in the jungle to inspect how he can cancel the licence of fox, wolf or jackal who have violated the 3000 page circular. Lion dies of stagnation & boredom.

6. MICROSOFT METHOD:
Hire a lion & give him 60 kgs of meat to eat everyday when he can eat only 30kg. Lion dies of overeating.

7. GOOGLE METHOD:
Recruit a lion, ask him to kill an elephant without any cut or blood from the body. Lion is forced to learn from ducks, rabbits & pigeons on how to kill dinosaurs. Lion is provided with 2 wolves to help in killing but with a condition that the wolves will not move or attack. Lion dies of confusion & paradoxes.

8. FLIPCART METHOD:
Flipkart is out of the race as they are still thinking as to what is a lion?

9. JIO METHOD:
Hire a lion & show him the forest from far.
Keep moving the forest, full of opportunities so that he keeps running. He never gives up ‘coz there are many like him running. Finally he retires half way or dies in the stampede.

10. SBI METHOD :

Hire a Lion, give him lowest possible salary & allowances. Start Three -Four campaigns at a single time. Give him unachievable targets. Don’t give subordinates.
Change software suddenly. Take meetings & threaten him of transfer to a remote branch. Lion dies cursing his bad luck!

The recruitment industry is not a small industry to talk about. It is a huge industry where people who need people to work for them recruit others and people who need work to do or need employment, apply for the recruitment to get jobs. In other and simple words, the recruitment industry is the initiative where businessmen or other people recruit candidates for their work.

The recruitment industry has changed greatly in the past and will continue to change in the future. But because of this era of digital technologies, it is for sure that within 2-3 years, the recruitment industry will see one of the biggest uprisings in their field. Here in this article, we have explained some points on what can be the future view of the recruitment industry in 2022-23.

Recruiting process will be done through new advanced technologies and algorithm

When we are predicting the future of the recruitment industry we can not ignore or exclude the importance of the development of internet algorithms and technologies. These algorithms and technologies will bring tremendous changes to the recruitment process. It will make the hiring process fast as you do not have to go through the thousands of resumes or CVs to find the right candidate for your job. The advanced algorithm will do everything for you and will prove the best candidate as per your requirements.

Recruitment process will get easy and accurate

With the use of technology and ATS, now hiring is not just about ticking boxes or following a step-by-step guide. Yes, at its core, it’s just publishing a job ad, screening resumes and providing a shortlist of good candidates – but overall, hiring is closer to a business function that’s critical for the entire organization’s success and health. After all, your company is nothing without its people, and it’s your job to find and hire stellar performers who can make your business thrive.

Future generations are currently facing the frustration of preparing for careers that could not even exist yet. Recruitment transparency provides a vital hiring insight for potential candidates. Sharing information freely provides valuable transparency between candidate and employer. The clued-up candidate wants to know the full ins and out of the recruitment process.

 Improved hiring quality (AI assistance)

Talent acquisition leaders rate quality of hire as the most valuable KPI for their recruiting teams. On a fundamental level, what we all want to know is: Is my recruiting process actually selecting the right talent?

According to LinkedIn, 40% of companies worldview rank it as their top priority. A recent survey found that while speed was the metric used to measure recruiting success currently, quality was the metric most desired to be used in the future.

Quality of hire is defined as the value a new hire adds to your company. Specifically, how much a new hire contributes to your company’s long term success.
Based on its definition, it’s obvious why quality of hire is considered such a priority. But quality of hire is also the most difficult recruiting metric to measure and assess. One reason is that it often involves a time delay of several months to even years to prove out. This means investing in improving quality of hire requires a long-term commitment.

25 years of Zoho: from Adventnet to a self-funded unicorn

India needs to look at the rural economy as a source of production and wealth creation rather than just a source of demand to become a $5 trillion economy, according to Zoho’s Sridhar Vembu.

The country can focus on product innovation and train the talent available in rural areas to get the benefits of demographics and cheaper real estate, he said.

“All we know about Zoho Corp is that we were born sometime between late 1995 and early 1996 and we acquired the Zoho.com domain sometime in 2002 and changed ourselves to Zoho Corp in 2009. We have definitely completed 25 years in business, but we cannot be sure when we were exactly born!”

It’s no great surprise that Sridhar Vembu, famously known as the man who turned down venture capital money, and who believes that Indian engineering talent from small towns can build world class software products, has a huge fan following from inside the startup industry and beyond.

Nowadays there are various startups not just hitting it big but changing the face of business in the process. However, the harsh truth of startups is that nine out of 10 startups fail sometimes mysteriously and often unnoticed! The remaining startup succeeds because of its innovation and creativity in their process. Zoho is one such firm which got successful starting from a small apartment located in the Chennai suburbs. Over the past two decades, Zoho has emerged as a leader in web-based business tools providing a single cloud platform with all important applications to run a business entirely from the cloud. At present Zoho has 4000 employees and its headquarter is in California. It has offices in Singapore, Japan, China and India.

Snuggled within the Western Ghats in southern Tamil Nadu, almost on the absolute edge of India, is the newly formed district of Tenkasi, most famous on the tourism map for the Courtallam Five Falls. Among a collection of nine waterfalls, the Courtallam Five that cascade from the river Chittar is compared to the mythological five-headed cobra, and its waters are said to have restorative effects. Lower down on the plains are predominantly agricultural hamlets, with paddy occupying the largest area of cultivation.

Over the past eight months, Vembu has swimmingly moved back to his rural and agrarian roots. A typical day begins at 4 am when he does calls to the US offices. By 6 am, he’s off for a long walk and, on occasion, a swim in the village well. Snake-spotting, and a few times even catching them, is one activity during the stroll.

He returns for breakfast, after which he takes stock of engineering projects, reviews codes and takes customer calls. Then it’s time to indulge in a bit of what his ancestors did for sustenance.

Vembu steps out to the fields to grow paddy, vegetables like tomato, brinjal and okra, and fruits such as mango, watermelon and coconut. Life in Tenkasi opened up new horizons even as the hubs of commerce stayed locked down.

How to use LinkedIn to get the more jobs

Why should you use LinkedIn for your job search?

It’s no secret that LinkedIn is the top professional social networking site with 133 million users in the U.S. alone and reaching 200 countries and territories around the world. As per Survey, 87 percent of recruiters use LinkedIn as part of their candidate search. As a professional or student, it’s the popular place to network and look for job opportunities; even former U.S. President Barack Obama once joked during a TV press conference that he would join LinkedIn to help him land a job after his term was up!

The issue is that if you’re only updating your profile now and then, you’re not fully utilizing all LinkedIn can do for you, which includes taking hours off of your job search. Below are some tactical tips on how you can leverage LinkedIn to its fullest to expand your professional network and land your next great job.

LinkedIn profile:

  • Keep your profile up to date.
  • Be comprehensive about current skills and objectives.
  • Highlight your recent experience.

When asked what was most important about a candidate’s profile and how to make the best use of the platform, Weiner responded that first and foremost “authenticity” was important.

“Be yourself, represent who you are. It’s not just your experiences; this is not a resume … This is a more dynamic approach to representing your experiences, your skills, your objectives, what you know, what you’re interested in within a professional context,” Weiner explained. “It’s not just about the comprehensiveness; it’s also about freshness of the information, and the more complete and the more fresh, the more recent that that information has been updated, the more opportunities that are going to accrue to our members.”

1. Make yourself memorable with great stories.

Recruiters and hiring managers are like anyone else—they respond to story-telling rather than mind-numbing lists of facts. Plus, research shows that stories can aid memory. So telling a good story or two in your LinkedIn profile could make you more memorable to recruiters.

Example: For each job you post on your profile, don’t simply state your responsibilities. Weave an interesting tale about your successes in the job, Gresham recommends. Most important, explain the problems and how you solved them, especially if you came up with creative solutions to important challenges. Keep your narrative succinct; a lengthy yarn could be a turnoff to busy recruiters.

2. Focus on where you’re going versus where you’ve been.

Professionals at mid-career are often looking to reinvent themselves after years of working in a specific type of job or industry, Gresham says. But too often, their LinkedIn profiles only reflect where they’ve been. Instead, focus your profile on where you want to go.

Find your ideal jobs, then build your profile around those, Gresham advises. For example, while it’s tempting to list tons of skills from all your years of experience, keep your focus on what’s relevant to the job you’re seeking. And by all means, remove skills you no longer want to use in a job. Gresham says she once listed Facebook consultant among her skills on LinkedIn but deleted it when she decided she no longer wanted to do Facebook consulting.

3. Keep it fresh.

A LinkedIn profile should be a “living, breathing document” that clearly represents what makes you “unique and worth hiring,” Gresham says, not a static set-and-forget online resume. One way to keep your profile alive: regularly share updates on topics related to your field, just as you share updates on Facebook.

Posting long-form content, such as LinkedIn blog posts, is “another great way to catch a recruiter’s eye,” says LinkedIn’s Career Expert Catherine Fisher. You can “share thought leadership advice, insights on the day’s top stories or industry trends to reinforce your experience,” which helps position you as an expert in your chosen field.

Google staff can use Work Location Tool to calculate pay for remote work

Google has launched a platform that will allow its employees to calculate how much their pay or earnings will be if they decide to work remotely and relocate to a less expensive or more costly location to do so. The tool, called Work Location Tool, will let workers calculate how their salary will be adjusted according to the location they choose, based on the cost of living of the place and in keeping with the local job market.

In the new hybrid workplace, more employees will have the flexibility to choose where they work from. This tool will help them in making that choice, as they will have a clear idea of how their salaries and benefits will be adjusted according to their location. They can clearly see how their compensations or earnings will change from one location to another.

The Company is sure that once offices start reopening worldwide, about 60 per cent of its 1,40,000-strong global workforce will work from office only for a couple of days in a week, while 20 per cent will shift to new office locations. The remaining 20 per cent will continue to work from home. The time spent in office will be primarily for collaboration. Which team will come in when will be decided on the basis of the work and function. Therefore, depending on the nature of the work, there may be roles that require presence in office for more than three days a week.

8 of the biggest challenges faced by women in the workplace in India in 2021

We may live in the 21st century but there’s still a long way to go before women are looked at equally with men.

Women all around the world have had to fight for all rights. Be it their education, medical health and even when it comes to working. One of the biggest challenges that we face as a society is the belief that men are still superior and we see discrimination around us everywhere. Women are still expected to give birth to a boy who will continue their precious family name and in many cases it’s still considered a matter of grave shame when a girl is born. Women empowerment ideologies have given birth to feminism and many women activists are trying to make women at par with men in society.

Feminism is perceived as a movement that believes in the upliftment of women and downgrading men well that’s not true. Feminists stand up for discrimination against anyone be it man or woman.
Women face gender based discrimination in each and every aspect of their life. There are many problems that women face even when it comes to their workplace. In this article, we’ll talk about the biggest challenges women face in the workplace and give you tips on how to combat workplace sexism.

Challenges faced by women in the workplace –

  1. Sexual harassment – Workplace harassment is a huge problem for men and women all over the world. #The MeToo movement was a huge eye opener for everyone around the world. The metoo movement was a way for men and women to come out and expose their perpetrators. Sexual harassment or assault at the workplace includes inappropriate touching, unwanted stares, anything that makes you uncomfortable. 
  2. Mental harassment – It’s an age old belief that women, no matter how qualified, aren’t equal to men. It is this belief that leads to men thinking that women don’t qualify for certain jobs. They’re looked down upon if they receive a promotion as opposed to their male colleagues. In spite of laws being placed, women still face discrimination in hiring processes. Sexist remarks, sexist jokes, comments such as oh you’re cranky today is that because you’re on your period, comments like these are all counted as mental harassment and if they make you uncomfortable then they should be reported. 
  3. Workplace discrimination – Women are often paid less than men for the same amount of work and the same job qualifications. Women are often deprived of promotions, and growth opportunities that will benefit their career. Often women are looked at as liabilities as they’re eligible for paid leaves during their period and maternity leaves.

  4. Insufficient maternity leaves – In India working mothers receive a paid maternity leave of 12 weeks out of which 6 weeks leave is Postnatal. Women who miscarry or medically terminate their pregnancy also receive a paid leave of 6 weeks which isn’t sufficient. Moreover, many companies don’t provide their workers with an active day care system which can be difficult for working parents.
  5. No safety for working women – Many times, women are expected to not work post say 7pm. Women are often pressured into leaving their jobs if their job doesn’t sit well with their family members. Women are also expected to work a full time job and then take care of their family and their needs. Fail to do so and in some cases women will face physical abuse.
  6. Lack of family support – Very recently we witnessed the story of a woman who was stabbed to death by her husband because she refused to fall prey to his pressure of her leaving her job. This is the ground reality that we live in. While this is an extreme case, there are many other women battling out cases of physical, emotional abuse due to their choice to work. All of this stems from the patriarchal belief that it is the job of a man to go out and work. Women are still expected to take care of their house or find jobs which allow them to manage the responsibilities of a home and work. Women are expected to pursue careers which aren’t too complicated, if a woman wants to become a doctor, in some cases she’s expected to become a dentist or a radiologist as they won’t be called on call during an emergency.
  7. Personal space issues – When too much is expected from someone, it is bound to cause them mental health issues. Insomnia and depression are two of the biggest issues faced by women. Women often end up feeling boxed and feel as though they lack any personal space due to the high expectations of family and work.
  8. Job insecurity – We live in troubled times. Due to Covid-19, millions of people lost their job and with it their source of income. Job insecurities cause huge psychological and mental problems not just for men but women as well.

These are just some of the problems women face. Women have to face indiscrimination in other aspects of their lives as well. While this situation is changing around the world, men are being held accountable for their actions and more women are speaking up against their perpetrators.

How can women feel safe at their workplace?

While companies can do little to nothing when it comes to helping women that face indiscrimination at home, corporates can do a lot to tackle workplace sexism. Understanding the biases and indiscrimination women face and making policies that make their lives easier. Establishing an unbiased HR department that is empathetic and works towards solving their employees problems helps build trust for employees.

Steps women can take to combat workplace sexism –

It’s time women and men stand up to the discrimination they face at work, every small action counts and these are just some of the things that you can take to make your workplace a safe environment.

  1. Sexual harassment training should be a must in all companies. Because we are conditioned to behave a certain way, sometimes people may not even realise when they’ve made discriminatory remarks. Sexual harassment training’s should be made mandatory to employees as well as managers. Sometimes biases may occur subconsciously which is why employees must also receive unconscious bias training.
  2. Making policies that take strict actions against employees who engage in workplace discrimination will make employees feel safer.
  3. Nobody likes being talked over. More often than not we’ve all been victims of mansplaining. Whenever that happens, don’t be afraid to call out on their misogyny.
  4. Seek help, talk to your colleagues, talk to the hr department of your company if you’ve faced sexual or mental harassment. Every time someone stays silent, the perpetrator gets away with it and wins.
  5. It’s not always easy speaking up or standing up for yourself. Many times employees fear the consequences, what if you lose your job? What if no action is taken? Backlash is one of the main reasons why women don’t come forward and report a crime. Remember to be smart about it. Before you talk to a supervisor or report a problem, talk to someone about it. Someone who can vouch for you and take your side. Maybe there are others who’ve gone through the same thing, talk to them and don’t act on impulse.

In Conclusion –

Even though we live in a civilized world where supposedly everyone is an equal, gender discrimination still exists. Women must stand up for themselves because what happened to you, may happen to someone else too. Laws are being changed, more and more people are standing up for themselves and things will change as long as we don’t stay silent because gender discrimination is a battle that shouldn’t be fought. Let us all strive to live in a world that is equal and just to all.

Former MD of Maruti Suzuki Jagdish Khattar dies due to cardiac arrest
Former Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki and founder of Carnation Auto India, an automotive sales and service company, passed away on Monday due to a cardiac arrest. He was 78-years old.
Khattar was with Maruti Udyog Limited from 1993 till his retirement in 2007. He joined Maruti in 1993 as director of marketing and went on to became its MD in 1999, first as a government nominee and then in May 2002 as the Suzuki Motor Corporation nominee.

Prior to his stint with Maruti Suzuki, Khattar was an IAS officer with around 37 years of experience. Post-his retirement from Maruti in 2007, he laid the foundation of his new company, Carnation Auto India, which has a multi-brand pan-India sales and service network.
Khattar was involved in a controversy in 2019 when the Central Bureau of Investigation booked him for alleged bank fraud to the tune of Rs 110 crore by Carnation Auto India.

The CBI had filed an FIR against Khattar and his company under various sections of the IPC related to criminal conspiracy and cheating on the basis of a complaint filed by the Punjab National Bank (PNB) on October 7, 2019.

In response to the charges against him, Khattar had said, “Carnation is a bona fide business failure. There is no wrongdoing. A detailed forensic audit was conducted earlier this year by a leading independent auditor and nothing amiss was found. The bank (PNB) has now referred it to CBI as a part of the process followed by them. Search was conducted by CBI but nothing incriminating was found. We will be vindicated once the investigation is completed.”

Rekha M Menon, Chairperson and Sr. Managing Director of Accenture India has been appointed as Chairperson of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) for 2021-22.

She is the first woman Chairperson of Nasscom in the association’s 30-year history. Rekha takes on the position from her previous role as Vice-Chairperson, succeeding UB Pravin Rao, Chief Operating Officer, Infosys, who served as chairman for 2020-21.
NASSCOM also announced the appointment of Krishnan Ramanujan, President and Head of Business & Technology Services, Tata Consultancy Services as their Vice Chairperson for 2021-22.
“The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic continues to test the resilience of our more than 4 million people, even as it has created new opportunities for growth with technology emerging as the lifeline for societies and economies across the world,” Menon said in a statement.

“As we cautiously navigate the pandemic, I look forward to working with the NASSCOM Executive Council and its members to drive our industry’s long term growth by augmenting India’s position as the digital talent nation for the world, driving people-first innovation, and working with the government to create a conducive policy environment needed for sustainable growth,” she added.
NASSCOM also announced its new Executive Council which comprises industry sectors like ER&D, BPM, IT Services, GCC, SME and Startups. The new Executive council will play a strategic role in enabling India’s tech sector to take leadership on the global map through focused initiatives and programs.

NTT to invest $1.5 billion in India, to double capacity in 3 years

NTT to invest $1.5 billion in India, to double capacity in 3 years

NTT that has integrated its three India units into one entity from this January, is focusing more on the data centre space where it leads the market, getting three-fourths of the committed $ 2 billion capex, which will see it nearly double the capacity to 2.5 million sqft, says a senior official of the Japanese technology services major.
NTT in India was created on January 1, 2021, by merging the three businesses –NTT India, NTT Communications India, and NTT-Netmagic under the leadership of Sharad Sanghi as the chief executive, following an announcement to this effect in last November.
NTT had also said announced a $2-billion capex to drive the data centres, networks and solar projects in the country over the next three years.
Before the new role, Sanghi was chief executive of Global Data Centres and Cloud Infrastructure India, known more as NTT-Netmagic.

NTT’s association with India began when in 2012 it bought a controlling stake in Netmagic, the country’s first independent data centre provider launched by Sanghi for a reported Rs 900 crore. Later in 2018 he fully exited the company selling the remaining 19 per cent stake to NTT.
Sanghi was the pioneer in the data centre space having set up the country’s maiden company in the space Netmagic way back in July 1998.
With over 1.5 million sqft across 10 data centres operational already in four cities, NTT is the largest operator in this segment and Sanghi says this will more than double to 2.5 million sqft over the next three years and will be entering four more cities.
Going forward our focus will be the data centre space. Accordingly, we’re launching six more data centre parks over the next three years. Of them, currently three parks are under construction in Mhape and Airoli (both Navi Mumbai) and Chandivali in Mumbai; and one each will be come up in Chennai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru.

This expansion will see up investing almost $1.5 billion of the committed $ 2 billion capex over the next three years, and will early double our capacity to over 2.5 million sqt from 1.5 million sqft now, Sanghi told in a weekend interaction.
The company is also keen to enter Hyderabad and Pune but will wait for demand to really firm up, he said.
NTT also runs the first and the largest operational hyperscale data center park in the country in Navi Mumbai.
Sanghi said the rest of the capex will go into power and managed services spaces. The renewal power sector will get the second biggest capex to the tune of $ 400 million to scale up our green power generation capacity 150 mw now and to 250 mw.

The remaining $100 million will go into building new undersea cable landing ports in Chennai, Mumbai and Khandala in Gujarat, he said.
Sanghi said the domestic data centre market is growing at an annual rate of 20 per cent and will continue to clip at this level for the next few years more. Currently, India is the fifth largest data centre market in the world that is led by China, but the India capacity is only a sixth of China’s.
Refusing to share any revenue figure, pointing to the fact that they are privately held, Sanghi said as of now, data centre business is the second largest in terms of revenue but has the highest margin and is also the fastest growing business for them, after the managed services business in the technology infra space, and the network unit the last.
But with after the expansion, data centre will be the biggest business unit both in term of topline as well as bottomline, he said.
NTT in India employs over 6,500, he said, and added that the business integration did not lead to any firing.

IIM Bangalore sees strong placement season; 435 students get jobs

A total of 481 offers were made to the Post Graduate Programme in Management Class of 2019-21 at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, with all 435 students being successfully placed.
Consulting and Product Management domains lead recruitment, according to an IIMB statement on Monday.

Chairperson, Career Development Services, IIMB, Professor U Dinesh Kumar, said: “They have been recruited by reputed companies despite COVID-19 disruptions.”
Consulting companies made 165offers, with Accenture leading with 45, followed by Bain & Company with24.

Top recruiters included McKinsey & Company (18) and the Boston Consulting Group (13). Prominent recruiters in the information technology and IT product management domain, who made78offers, included Microsoft (12).

Sixty-seven offers were made in the Finance domain.
Among the banks, Goldman Sachs made the maximum of 22 offers.
Leadership tracks and general management positions saw 47 offers made by conglomerates, startups, and other firms, with theRPG Groupleading with10offers.
Students opting for Sales and Marketing roles received 50 offers and were recruited by major firms led by Dr Reddys Laboratories (five) andProcter & Gamble (five).
Student Placement Representative, Harshit Verma said:”Strategy Consulting and Product Management continue to be the most sought-after roles, followed by Finance.”
Manager, Career Development Services, IIMB, Tapas Ranjan Pati, said companies from overseas locations like Amsterdam, Dubai and Singapore made offers across consulting, finance, international trading, and business strategy.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha TV merged into SANSAD TV, Ravi Capoor appointed CEO

The presiding officers of both Houses of Parliament have set the ball rolling for merger of Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV into a single entity, SANSAD TV, by appointing retired IAS officer Ravi Capoor as its CEO for one year.

According to a circular issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Capoor has been appointed from March 1 for a period of one year.

“Consequent upon the joint declaration of the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Lok Sabha Speaker to merge RSTV and LSTV into Sansad Television (SANSAD TV), Ravi Capoor has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer, SANSAD TV, on contract basis, for a period of one year with immediate effect,” the circular reads.

Sources said though the channels are being integrated into one single entity but it will function on two platforms — one to telecast live proceedings of Lok Sabha and the other of Rajya Sabha.
They said that during the inter-session period, the two platforms will telecast almost similar content but in different languages — Hindi and English.

The integration of two channels will lead to some savings and may result in retrenchment of a few employees, they said.

In November 2019, after deliberations between Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, a committee headed by former Prasar Bharati Chairman Surya Prakash was formed for integration of the two channels.
The committee had submitted its report last year.

The upheaval of 2020 had many organisations scrambling to adopt more agile HR practices or risk falling behind. But what does it take to get it right?

Survival in 2020 required rapid adaptation. This meant organisations that had baked agility into their processes were already one step ahead.

Research from McKinsey found mature, agile organisations were able to adapt faster to the pandemic; it measured the time 36 telco providers across 11 Asian and European countries took to launch services in response to COVID-19, such as providing additional data or bandwidth.
Highly agile telcos responded on average two times faster than non-agile ones. When the telcos were asked why, the answers fell into two broad categories: response at a team level and response at an enterprise level to rapidly align with shifting priorities.

The fundamentals of agile structures make this unsurprising; two of their hallmarks are a focus on customer outcomes (which makes it easier to respond to their needs in times of change) and empowering staff to do their jobs independently (which helps when everyone is suddenly being forced to work from home).

“In the current environment, all leaders can really do is coach others. So many people have had to take a step up and complete tasks on their own,” says organisational psychologist Graham Winter of Think One Team.

Because agile thinking and processes bring widespread changes to the way a company and its employees operate, HR’s guidance is essential.

Adopting agile HR practices

A 2020 report from Gartner found 74 per cent of HR leaders indicated that their organisations are undergoing a broad, agile transformation.
Generally, these transformations cover areas such as: challenging ways of working, revamping processes, examining strategy, energising people, allocating resources fluidly where they are needed and looking at technology usage.
“It’s about pulling together all the elements, such as changing HR practices, rewarding staff, removing silos and delivering more value for clients,” says Winter.
HR needs to drive this mindset shift towards new ways of working, but this doesn’t mean working alone. As Eduardo Nofuentes, director of consultancy Neu21, says, the impetus has to come from both the bottom and the top – because without this, any transformation is going to be difficult.

Swiss-headquartered pharmaceutical company Roche knew this from the start. It began its transformation in Australia in mid-2019 (it’s also transforming on a global scale) and it’s still ongoing. Rebecca Casey, people and culture lead at Roche Pharmaceuticals, agrees that while HR played an important part in rolling this out, they were careful to make sure the change came from leadership as they didn’t want it to be seen as just “another HR initiative”. And that, she says, is what led to the transformation’s success.

Under agile structures, Roche’s leadership is now based around being a visionary, architect, catalyst and coach rather than more traditional notions of management.
This also means staff are “treated like adults” and empowered, and in return expected to be accountable and transparent, says Casey.

Some employees have found this transition hard, while others have responded well. Casey says this means Roche will naturally attract and retain those who fit with its preferred way of working.

The next part of the process will be around finalising how to incentivise and reward employees – for example, moving away from the typical manager-led performance reviews and trialling something new – because when you pledge to overhaul your work system to align with modern expectations, you often need to make sure no processes are left behind.

What are your next steps?

But what can HR do in practical terms to help facilitate agile thinking and approaches? The first step is to help organisations switch focus.

“How do we change from delivering projects to understanding a concept and delivering an outcome?” says Jason Inacio, partner at McKinsey.

As Gartner found, 78 per cent of HR professionals have neither a defined strategy nor outcome in place to guide their application of agile structures in the HR function. This makes it difficult for HR to take action because they are the ones responsible for spearheading the implementation of agile working models where employees feel trusted and managers guide rather than give orders.

“Agility is being able to move quickly and easily, so trust is essential. And because employees feel they are being judged on their outcomes not output, they are more able to adapt,” says Nofuentes.
If you need a place to start on your agile journey, look at how people spend their time.

Gartner’s research found only one-third of HR leaders agree projects are paused or stopped if they are no longer deemed strategic or valuable. Roche identified this as a friction point for its workforce, so to save time it adopted a philosophy called ‘pragmatic over perfect’. For example, one of the first changes implemented was in finance planning, which included doing away with unnecessarily complicated budgeting processes.

Another example might be to not perfect an internal presentation when time could be better placed working on something with customer-related outcomes.

Inacio says some other examples of agile working structures could include daily stand-ups to discuss work, retrospectives on projects and teams deciding for themselves what they will work on – this encourages a culture of consistent feedback and iteration, which improves results and removes unnecessary barriers to the desired outcomes.

These are only examples, and small ones at that, but by taking the time to assess where time could be trimmed and friction points remedied, it can make all the difference in the world. Agile transformations will likely continue increasing in popularity as the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic force employers to better respond to customer and employer needs in times of change and uncertainty.

HR must take a front seat in driving mindset shifts and new ways of working, alongside buy-in from management. Focusing on outcomes, ensuring people are trusted and managers act differently are all areas where it’s crucial for HR to take the initiative in bringing about change.
